Registering with us as an NHS patient is straightforward. Simply call us on 01903 233983 or visit the practice at 16 Broadwater Road, Worthing BN14 8AE. Our reception team will take a few details and book your first appointment. You do not need to bring anything specific to register, though it helps if you know your NHS number. NHS dental care covers all treatment that your dentist considers clinically necessary to keep your mouth, teeth, and gums healthy. This includes examinations, diagnosis and advice, x-rays, scale and polish (if clinically needed), fillings, root canal treatment, extractions, dentures, crowns, and bridges. Cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening and veneers are not available on the NHS.

NHS dental treatment is charged in three standard bands. Band 1 covers examination, diagnosis, advice, and x-rays if needed. Band 2 covers everything in Band 1 plus additional treatment such as fillings, root canal treatment, and extractions. Band 3 covers everything in Bands 1 and 2 plus more complex procedures such as crowns, dentures, and bridges. Please check the NHS website for current band charges, as they are updated annually.

You qualify for free NHS dental treatment if you are: under 18 (or under 19 and in full-time education), pregnant or have had a baby in the previous 12 months, being treated in an NHS hospital, an NHS charge exempt based on your income, or receiving certain benefits such as Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, or Universal Credit (subject to earnings thresholds). If you are on a low income, you may be able to get help with dental costs through the NHS Low Income Scheme.

Both NHS and private dental care are provided by qualified, GDC-registered dentists. The key differences are in the range of materials and treatments available, the time allocated for appointments, and the cost. NHS care covers all clinically necessary treatment and is charged at standard band rates. Private care offers a wider choice of materials (such as tooth-coloured fillings on back teeth, which may only be available in amalgam on the NHS), longer appointments, and access to cosmetic treatments not available on the NHS.
